Default TCU Codes and What They Mean

TCU Location

The transmission control unit is located under the drvier's seat and it faces forward, toward the engine compartment (and your feet).
The transmission CPU is the form of an aluminum box (With a black plastic cover) with a little plexiglass window. All you have to observe is a little red LED in that window.

Extracting Codes

With the key in the first position (on), observe the blinking of the red LED in the window. When you first turn the key to this position, the TCU will give one long flash to indicate it is functioning properly. The light will then blink, displaying all the codes in sequence and then repeating them in the same order.

Reading Codes

The code numbers are read by counting the number of blinks between each long pause. The code number is indicacted by a series of fast LED blinks and then a longer pause. If there are multiple codes, it will display them in numerical order, starting with the lowest code, then a longer pause and then the next code.

TCU Reset

Sometimes it may be useful to reset the memory of your TCU. Although that is most often done by removing the negative terminal from your battery for a few moments, it will also reset your clock and radio/stereo presets. A better (and less well-known) way to reset your TCU is to remove the alternator fuse for about twenty seconds.

13 Main shaft speed pulse generator open or shorted.
14 Linear (line pressure control) solenoid open or shorted.
