Default OEM Front Struts for 1995 Legend

I have replaced the front struts three times on my 1995 SE Legend in the last 4 years with aftermarket shocks, and they all have had a hard ride. Looking for oem struts new or good used oem ones that were still good, just replaced with Performance shocks or the vehicle was wrecked. 1991 thru 1995 Legend will interchange.

What brand aftermarket struts have you already tried?

They were KYB, the last two sets. I do not remember the first set. The oem struts that rode the best, however they were wore out. Have not been able to find oem struts for the last three years. I plan on keeping this Legend, and would like to get some of the smoothness back.

KYB GR-2 and the newer Excel-G are supposed to restore OEM ride qualities.

I replaced my OEM struts that lost their compression damping with GR-2's. The old struts were worn to the point where the tow loop would bottom out entering driveways. The KYB's stiffened up the ride quite a bit and for the better. I also replaced the upper control arms and ball joints with OEM parts and had the toe and caster dialed in.

Have you owned your car when it was new? Perhaps the ride that new struts provide is the way it's supposed to ride

I don't know of any strut manufacturer makes a strut that's "softer" than an OEM ride.

I have used OEM ones available in nice condition. $150 plus shipping. Shipping is expensive.

Let us know how long you've had those KYBs on your car. I bought a set ONCE and was HIGHLY disappointed to say the least when I was replacing them in about 20 - 24 months. The car wasn't lowered, not even a performance chipped ECU way back then. I was doing a LOT of driving on my Legend back then and got somewhere around 50K - 55K miles if that much.

Do you have an idea of what the shipping might be? Who would you use for shipping? Fed Ex might be the best here.

I had apx. 18 months on the first set, 15 months on the second set, and about 10 months on the set on there now? I have been very disappointed with them as you.

I have had the this Legend since July of 2003.

The GR-2's were installed over the Christmas holiday in 2004. They now have ~101,923 miles on them.

They replaced the originals which had 343,674 miles on them.

Not bad as you get to gingerly and gently drive your legend putting on average only about 6,000 (5995) miles a year on it after the struts were done 17 years ago. I am not doing ANYTHING near that much with my sedan anymore (301K odometer now) but I was on my coupe when it was my daily driver. The current daily driver is on par to get probably 12,000 to 15,000 miles a year on it. My sedan had the suspension done a few times (I think I'm looking at doing it a fourth time and going K-Sports this time around as even my Koni Reds were replaced once under warranty). My 1993 coupe currently rides on its ORIGINAL OEM struts and has I believe just under 240K (238K and change per the last odometer pic I found). The car on occasion would act a little wonky but trust me NOTHING yet rides like the ORIGINAL struts did on either Legend.

I've used KYB (~50K), AST (~50K), Monroe (~40K) and APWhse knock-offs (~40K). KYB has given me the most satisfying ride/longevity.

As you mentioned we're kind of in a "get what you can" game with these cars now. I know people have been switching to coilovers... that just isn't quite my game at this point.
