The paint for my db1 that just went in, is gonna cost me close to 3500, thats a factory color, they are fixing the little parking lot dings, doing door jambs, priming, and then wet sanding and buffing to a showroom shine... again, its all about what you pay for, I PERSONALLY would NEVER trust a Maaco or a chain type place to paint my car, its as if they bring in gorillas to paint and leave you with all the runs and orange peel... just doesn't make sense if you want a good paint job.. Look on local forums and see where other people in your area have gotten their cars painted and then go to the different shops, ask to see samples of their work and get price quotes, the best way to figure out, I have learned, to see who does the best, is have a convo with the painter/bodywork guys.... that seems to be the best way

Ya, good paint job cost is what made me ditch my plans to color change and restore the 91LS... got the 94LS so total color change won't be necessary.

I was looking at 4K+ for a total color change job with me stripping the parts off the car. Almost every place said they would guess the job would go over budget too. I choked at the 4K+ prices, but it sounds like they were in line if chopped does it for 1800 totally stripped for a same color job.

+1 on getting what you pay for.

Chopped, how long have you been painting? Did u go to school or it or just kind of teacher yourself? I want to get into body work and painting but there's nowhere within a 50 mile radius of me that offers courses.

I really want to paint, but many have said your paint job is only has good as the prep work and whats under the paint.

Chopped definitely knows what hes doing by the looks of that Acura. I worked at a body shop for couple years and he seems to have all the key ingredients for a great paint job. Lots of people can lay down a coat of paint but 80% of a good paint job is in the prep work.

Just from the pix I can tell he uses the right materials and that booth alone was prolly 20k+.... great filtration and baking the paint at about 140 deg. that means ur car is cured in like 30min. lol

And here's my wall...I'm doing this TL currently...factory refinish...

I noticed everything but the doors were sanded down. Are you not painting the doors, only the fenders and quarters? Or maybe u just hadnt gotten that far yet.

I went to school to be a mechanic...Nashville Auto-Diesel College. Taught myself to paint.

And TRUE....A good painter can't cover up bad prep work, and good prep work can be ruined by a bad painter. I do both myself...purty good at either one.

When it's a paint that is just 2 stage, I can do it in sections. Pearls and candies are much harder to do in sections like this though, one panel might look different than another if the candy or pearl coat is just a little thicker, so this is not usually attempted. So to answer your question...I painted the quarters and trunk that day, and left the doors for the next day.
