Default Who painted your car?

Ok so I think the next thing on my list and getting my minor body work and paint done on my coupe. I want my car to have that factory black luster CLOSE to what it had off the showroom floor. I understand we have old cars and it doesn't need to be flawless, but I want it to be presentable. Like at least NALM worthy, lol. I see a lot of you guys with black coupes have some CLEAN paint!!!

If you haven't seen pics of my coupe from other posts, I have some clear cost peeling, roof and truck sun damage, paint cracking and a few minor rust bubbles that need to be worked out.

Macco quoted me $1300 for all the body work and paint, but this was just the 1 layer "high grade automotive enamel" thats $299. I know it def wont have that factory shine like it has now and I dont want to loose that.

Maaco has a SUPREME and SIGNATURE option that will probably be over $1000 in paint alone. So my question is, who did you guys go to for paint and how much did you pay? There are some local paint shops around but I dont know much about them.

OH yea, and I need some 19s ASAP!! These 16" wheels are killing me!!!

I typed out a long reply and then my school's internet timed out, so here is a short version:

-If you're set on Maaco, do Signature or Supreme. But first, read reviews and go see work done by that specific Maaco.

-Go with 18" rims. I can only think of 2 sets of 19" rims I've ever liked on Legends.

Indeed, 18" is just perfect on a KA8.

You get what you pay for, plain and simple. If your getting a maaco job I wouldnt expect it to hold up for very long. Also if your getting a paint job where they dont take off the items like door handles, moldings, mirrors, etc.. then don't get upset when you start to see the paint cracking at the seems in few months time. If a shop says no it doesnt need to come off then away because they are just full of it. I say shop around and look for something in your budget. Also it may be a good idea to remove the pieces yourself because some shops would prefer that and also give you a nice price break for it.

Yea, you're right. The only thing that seemed kinda skep to me about Maaco is they always claim they have nothing to show their work. I would think that's pretty important and what people would want to see. I was expecting to at least see some before/after pics posted on the wall inside of have a few cars somewhere that were just painted, etc. That to me that is your selling point. :dunno:

+1 and Repped!!!

I am having my buddy paint my car on the side. He owns his own body shop and does amazing resto work. I am getting a huge discount because we've been friends since we were kids and because I am helping him with the labor.

I have honestly seen some pretty good Maaco re-sprays, but Ive also seen some terrible ones. My advice for Maaco or any shop, would be, to get the body prep work mostly done before the car goes in to be sprayed. That means removing certain pieces, taping off, and prepping any body work. Providing the paint helps too, but make sure you order the correct color and more than enough paint for the job. Buying from a wholesaler on the internet can save you hundreds, but you have to do research on the company to find a reputable dealer. Any leg work you can do to help save the shop money will in turn save you money. That way it saves the shop time and will in turn save you money. Otherwise, start seeing if you have a friend, relative, or a friend of a friend or relative that does reputable paint and body work and see if you can save money that way. In all honesty, you may have to end up biting the bullet and coming out of pocket a decent amount to get a quality job done.

Take it apart, sand it down, bring it to me...I primer, I sand, I paint...YOU put it back together = $1800

Bring it to me, I do everything = $3000

Wetsand and polish to show-worthy glass-flat finish = extra $1000

And here's my wall...I'm doing this TL currently...factory refinish...
