A third time!
Here we are a few months under 5 years since the last (and I actually thought the very last) group buy for laser cut G2 Modernized Indicators and we're doing it again! This group buy was precipitated by a long time member reaching out to me for some very custom JDM Modernized indicators. Upon the completion of that custom project we were chatting about the costs we were about to spend producing a single set of indicators and it was franky daunting. Through messaging we arrived at the question of whether there might be enough interest in the original offering plus potentially the JDM offering to defray some of the cost. A feeler thread was created here and response showed that the Group Buy would be possible. So here we are!!! Let's go.

Specific Type Info
I am separating the two options into follow-up posts below. This first post will contain status updates while the other two will have distribution specific information.

Doing business
Acuralegend.org is the only outlet I plan on using to manage the group buy, so if there are other forum or social outlets you might frequent with people that might be interested in these plates, feel free to link them over here. (hint: Facebook, Instagram, etc.) Because I need single source tracking they will need to sign up if not already a member so I can communicate via acuralegend.org PM. I know some one-offs are going to trickle through and I will do my best to accomodate, but please understand it will make things more difficult to keep organized (I definitely don't want anyone to fall between the cracks).

The only payment option I have open is PayPal. I will not be using any of the peer-type products.

About the upgrade:
The plates are made of .06" clear acrylic with a black backing. The symbols are engraved onto the black backing and allow light through the engraved portion. These plates drop the intensity of our OEM light "blocks" quite a bit and I think in general bring a little newer appearance to the cluster. This is a snap-in replacement of the existing plates except for 91-92 Legends where we will need to clean the printed arrows/high beam from the colored chiclets with Plastic-X or some mild solvent to remove factory printing.

Pricing
For this group buy a majority of R&D has been completed with previous group buys. The additional R&D for a JDM option has been 90% completed with final steps waiting to be integrated in the production burn time. I am in the process of figuring out the overhead costs (Minimum burn session, US/48 shipping, media, etc.) for the effort. In the feeler I spit-balled a maximum of 15.00 per set but with an agreement with another member we will cover the shortfall if we don't make break-even which is about 40 sets. I am just going to require the minimum total production orders to be 25 sets, Which we are not far off from in feeler interest so we will proceed business as usual.

The price of either USDM or JDM options is 10.50 per set.

USDM Options

US and Canada cluster pods are sized and positioned the same with the only variance existing on the ABS pod. Since there have been 2 previous Group Buys on this product the design is baked in and ready to go. The information below is pretty much copy/paste from the previous GB.

Here are a few shots of the Normal G2 product:

ABS POD CHOICES
There are 6 ABS pod choices, the default is NORMAL and you don't need to make a special note if that's the one you want, it is automatic. The NORMAL choice is the one that will be an exact feature match for USDM Legends.



NOTE ABOUT THE TCS OPTION : (Updated in 2020 with a newer "active" symbol of Legend rear view) The TCS set will require a conversion of your cluster wiring that is fairly complicated and requires re-routing the lighting since factory TCS lights are located in the tachometer. In the last group buy there was confusion about the mod and some didn't understand the amount of work it took. Buying the TCS plates alone will not change your TCS indicator appearance. Only 94-95 GS sedan and 93-95 LS coupe came with TCS.

NOTE ABOUT THE AUX OPTION : The AUX option is for people that want to wire some sort of "auxilary" light to the dash pod. This would be a mod you do yourself or pay another member to do. This might be anything from your aftermarket alarm light to fog/driving lights. There is no OEM designation for the AUX option.

NOTE ABOUT EPS OPTIONS : EPS is Electric Power Steering. There is an active movement by several in the community to convert their Legend fleet to EPS so that the power steering pump can be eliminated for multiple beneficial reasons. The group is large enough and committed enough to allow two versions of the EPS flavor of our ABS pod. The mod to switch over is fairly substantial and involves a modified rear crossmember in addition to sourcing the EPS, EPS module and various other components to make it work properly. If you choose to buy this set you will also need to do instrument cluster modification to put a light in place for the EPS feature. Also refer to the comment above "A NOTE ABOUT THE AUX OPTION" for more on the AUX assignment.

JDM (Alpha) Options

This group buy offers the option of JDM Alpha style indicators.

Below are a couple of pictures for your reference. I don't have any prototype shots because the JDM pods will be prototyped the day of our production burn. This is possible because only one of the 3 pieces is actually a new shape. I have been printing and cutting out the file images and taping to my donor bezel and I think we're nearly there. Final tweaks will be made when real media is burned and cut and any overage to the burn session will be absorbed by myself and the person who has made the JDM option possible.




07/27/2020 It has been brought to my attention in a following post by NuclearSymphony that the loaner cluster is an ALPHA cluster. Additionally it has been suggested that the "normal" JDM cluster will use inserts shaped the same as USDM indicators but with different assignments potentially. I am working to get a loaner or at least some sort of verification so that a "normal" JDM set can be made available in this Group Buy.

JDM owners can help me with the following:

1. In a PM, let me know of any variance you see and we can go offline to get you a file to print, cutout and gauge for fit.
2. In a PM, if your cluster looks the same confirm that.

Thanks for doing this, Rich! For anyone watching, please know something like this mod is easily 5x this price for just about any other make/model out there. These are an awesome bang for the buck, and provide a visual impact that is seen every time you drive. I'm in for several sets.

To my knowledge, and someone correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe the JDM Alpha/Alpha Touring cluster with that LCD readout at the bottom is the only one that uses the layout/shape mentioned above in the JDM section. All other JDM clusters should use the USDM layout, just with differing icons - not sure which ones they use exactly, but I'm guessing when they order they can specify.

Thanks for clarifying that this is an JDM alpha cluster that I have been working with, I will make that note to the JDM post and reach out to those who have ordered.

The JDM details have been updated indicating this is an Alpha JDM set currently.

If the "normal" JDM cluster uses the same plate shapes as USDM then I can make a file with the proper symbols... but I don't want this to be a guess. If somebody has a "normal" JDM cluster can verify OR is willing to loan me the bezel and inserts then I can see about verifying and making a set for that application... but I would need to get that loaner bezel/plates pronto.

I'm debating if I should pick up TWO spare Canadian (I think that is what I got in the last batch) sets in case either Legend decides to dump a cluster. I'm about due to replace the blue face gauges.
