This has been discussed many times, but I thought I would throw some photos into this task
First thing is to take your door panel off, which is described perfectly here: Acuralegendwiki Door Panel Removal Gather the following: Rubbing alcohol, a tube of Shin Etsu silicone grease, and some Q-tips ![]() Peel away the plastic door cover from the top left and remove the 6.5" speaker from the bottom left to access the forward window channel ![]() ![]() Once you have access to the channel, dip the end of Q-tip into your rubbing alcohol and as best you can, push the Q-tip into the channel and run it up and down inside the channel. It will take several Q-tips to clean. It seemed to be pretty easy to get the Q-tip in the groove at the bottom, so dipped in rubbing alcohol, put it in the channel at the bottom and then slide it up as far as my hand would reach ![]() then grabbed it from the upper opening and continued to the top. ![]() I did this through numerous Q-tips to make sure I got it really clean. The next step was to apply the Shin Etsu silicone grease. There was a lot of discussion about what to use, I chose to use Q-tips and had pretty good results getting the Shin Etsu inside the channel by pushing it into the channel and then sliding it up and down as I did with the rubbing alcohol. ![]() Once done with the forward channel, I replaced the plastic cover on the front side and then pulled the rear plastic from the door. This side has much easier access to the channel. ![]() Again, clean with rubbing alcohol and then apply the Shin Etsu ![]() Once done on the inside, lower the window and clean the top/outer window channels and then apply your Shin Etsu ![]() ![]() Here are a couple of the dirty Q-tips ![]() This worked like a charm! My passenger window now keeps at the same pace as my drivers window. Before, it took twice as long!

good wright up, I used 6" wooden Q-TIPS, they won't flex like normal ones and reach the whole channel. I also used a medium tip paint brush it spreads the shin-etsu much better.

Nice writeup! When I did this with my window channels, I removed the glass and removed the channels that are inside the door so I could thoroughly clean them and grease them. Using q-tips probably is easier.
I ordered the Shin-Etsu grease from my local Honda dealer, I think it was $8-10 |

Bump
To anyone that is wondering, YES, it makes a huge difference (if you don't have the time/willpower/brains to take the door panel off) to only clean the visible area around the window. I did this and the driver side window makes it to the top while the passenger side window is only 2/3 the way there. WOOT! Last edited by BluBrett; 10-30-2010 at 11:31 PM. |

I did only the upper portions which doesn't require door panel removal and it made a noticeable difference. Next time I have the door panels off I will do the lower portions of the window channel. Great write up and good pictures, I used q-tips also.
