There are no serial numbers on the motor or trans in that regard, I believe. Only engine model information (C32A_).

Best you can do is look at the intake manifold and see if it has a Type II badge. If so, it likely came from a 93-95, or has been swapped. Otherwise, it's a 91-92 or low trim level 93.

Easiest way to get a clue about if the manifold has been swapped is to look at the gaskets. They should be as old as the motor and easy to crumble. They will also be a green paper like material.

Correct-ish. The best method I have found to source correct parts is to search http://www.acuraoemparts.com/delray/jsp/home.jsp

Plug in a 91 and search for your part, get the part number. Then do the same for 95 and see if the part number changes. If it doesn't, you can search other sites for 91-95. If it does, you will have to try and determine if it was an update to the part, or a redesign.

ok thanks so as long as its for a 91-95 acura legend 3.2L c32a and if im not correct it has to be for a jdm engine the c32a? But as long as its the same part number for one between 91-95 acura legend as 91 c32a 3.2l then itll work

If it's in a tl my guess is that you have a type1. The 3.2 block is the same for every make, year, and model. Reason why I say you have a type1 is due to cams and the tl needing the extra sensors to be ob2 compliant. If you have a type 2 engine in it you will be having a fuel issue at higher rpms due to the ecu computer which can't be swapped out with legend.

Whew, so ... to be clear you CAN identify the year.

If it is a C32A from a Legend (not C32A1, C32A2) then use the serial number located on the driver's side block, just between the driver's side head and cam gear plate against the table below. Look in from the top center (front) of the engine.

Look at the first digit of the engine serial number...
1 = 1991
2 = 1992
3 = 1993
4 = 1994
5 = 1995

Type 1 engines ran from 1991 - 1995 on USDM cars. 91-92 ALL Legends. 93-95 KA7 L,LS.
Type 2 engines ran from 1993 - 1994 on USDM cars. 93-95 ALL KA8. 94-95 KA7 GS.
that should give you what you need.
This information is available in the service manual.

My answer was given under the impression that he was looking for a motor-unique number for IDing the original chassis and VIN information. You are correct, though, that basic info can be found there. My mistake.

The more I read the thread the more I wonder why the Legend engine year is even relevant. If the tech did a correct engine swap then he would have swapped pretty much everything from the TL engine to the Legend engine... including the cams so that ODB2 would be "happy"

I'm not sure but hitting up a TL forum might yield more reliable results.
