Do you think that part HAS to be rubber? Or do you think it could be made of abs and still function correctly?

It's pretty hard plastic swinging into it, so the abs would probably be pretty noisy. If the rubber had been in rougher shape I would have gotten some rubber handle dip and put it on there. For all I know some vacuum tubing might work.

Nice. I have a theory that the longer the runner to the can the more condensation will occur keeping vapor bypass lower. But that's just my hunch.

It's interesting you write this since I wondered why the hose closest to the driver side fuse box always had condensation on it.

I haven't posted in awhile on this one. Since my last post she's gotten:

* New front ball joints and wheel bearings @ Girrard's Automotive Buford GA.

* New oil catch. The polycarb started cracking on my old catch so I got a metal baffled catch can.

Here's the latest oil catch history:

Default Aspirator DIY with referenced repair that I refactored.

The original commie DIY just had you use silicone spray, which we all know is fairly temporary since that stuff we get in a can isn't that substantial.

So I refactored...

On pass #1 I used dielectric grease... major fail!! that thing sounded like a diesel powered aspirator behind the dash with all the drag and chatter.

back apart with it all...

On pass #2 I used silicone spray like the original DIY. Major fail #2. Although the fan was obviously turning faster and "better" it was still pretty noisy.

When I was getting ready to tear down again I remembered a lube I used on my bikes many many years ago and decided to order some for a try. While waiting for my Ebay delivery also found some soy based dry lube at Home Depot and decided to go with a double dunk on the next attempt to fix the aspirator.

back apart with it all...
* I cleaned it up
* I put Tri-Flow oil in the pivot points
* I slicked up the inside with dry lube

I put it together and... near silence.

So now I have the aspirator quieted down in the AutoCC!! Yay.

I cleaned up some rashed GS wheels for her today... making way for some new rubber to keep this sled on the road.

For the aspirator repair I referred to from the dot commie site... there's one by Cakes HERE and here's a pdf of it just in case the pictures end up disappearing (PDF)

I had to refactor it as mentioned above... but there you go with pictures.
