Default Quick response start up issue?

Ok car wouldnt start made the loud clicking from the hood. Jumped it and it started so starter is good. Next drove for 10 mins parked and car started again so dont think its alternator? While car was on I disconnected the negative terminal as im almost sure this is the test that if you disconnect this terminal while the car is on and it dies it is an alternator problem.. Am I correct is this probably a dead battery issue...I dont drive the car that often in the summer so what do you guys think last day I drove was last monday.
Thanks

That test is only not safe but its not the proper way to test an alternator. You need to check the battery voltage when the car is idling.

If you pulled the terminal and it died prob the alternator isn't charging. It's best to fully charge The battery via a charger then use a multimeter to watch the charging voltage. Pulling the termimal like that could cause a voltage spike and ruin sensitve systems.

I'd suggest getting a multimeter so we can help out. I would check the alternator under load and look at battery voltage throughout (eg. idling, 2K, 3K, under full load, etc.).

ok, if it stayed on, then you know the alty was putting out. charge the battery and then have it tested. sitting around isn't all that great for a battery.

Sorry my previous response was on my phone which I hate typing on. It doesn't mean you fucked anything up if the car stayed on. It means the alternator probably is charging, but like it was already stated, that test is not a safe one to do. You need a proper test that gives actual data figures. A multimeter is a good place to start, or take it down to the local auto parts place and get a free battery and alternator check.

You want to test your battery with the car not running and also the charging system with the car running. For the battery test you want to see voltage and the results of a load test. For the charging system you're mainly wanting to see the charging voltage with the car running. If your battery is below 12.6v when the car is off, but when it's on you see 14v, most likely your battery is bad. If you see 12.6v at the battery when it's off and still 12v when the car is on, your alternator is not charging.

Sounds like your battery terminals are loose.

your suppose to let the car run for atleast 30-40mins inorder for it to charge. I wouldnt expect it start with only 10mins worth of driving. If I were I would go to autozone and ask for a load test to make sure the battery and alternator is good. This service is free by the way.
